Michal Israelstam, born 21-July-66 is a leading dancer, teacher and choreographer of tap in Israel today. She has also contributed endlessly in the promotion of tap in Israel, which today has become extremely popular in many of the dance schools around the country. Michal was also one of the main organizers of Israel's first international tap day celebrations in 1995, where tap dancers from Germany, Holland and France participated.

Michal started dancing at the age of 6. During her youth Michal developed into a promising talent in all dance forms. At the age of 16 she received a dance scholarship and decided to devote all her time towards tap, which she continually does today with great passion.

After her army service in 1986, Michal traveled to the States where she studied tap for a year in New York. During her stay and the many tap festivals and workshops she has attended since, Michal has had the privilege in studying and of being inspired by tap masters such as Charles "Honi" Coles, Charles Atkins, Buster Brown, Jimmy Slyde, La-Vaughn Robinson, Brenda Bufalino, Sarah Petronio, Lynn Dally, Gregory Hines, Savion Glover and more.


Michal has also had the opportunity to perform with Barbara Duffy, Van Porter, Leela Petronio, Bakari Wilder, Mark Mendonca and more.

Michal was invited by tap master Brenda Bufalino to join the international Tap Dance Orchestra.

Michal has been teaching tap for the past 15 years, seeing her pupils develop into professional dancers and teachers in Israel and abroad. For the last 8 years she has also been the artistic director of "Sincopa" - the Jerusalem tap companies that perform all over Israel and internationally.

Over the years Michal has studied music with the leading jazz artists in Israel and performs with them in various music festivals and jazz clubs around the country.

In July 2000 Michal did choreography for 50 tap dancers for the closing piece of the main dance festival in Israel in front of an audience of over 25,000 people.

For the last 3 years Michal was a guest choreographer for the "Jerusalem Arts Festival".

In August 2004 Michal and "Sincopa" were invited to perform and take part in the "8th feetbeat tap festival" in Finland. The tour was a great success and they have received a letter of recognition from the Israeli ambassador in Helsinki, where he appraised their performance and the group's representation of Israel.

In May 2005 Michal traveled with "Sincopa" and "Hora" dance troupes on a delegation to China where they performed in luxurious halls in front of thousands of people and received warm applause for energetic and professional performances.
The group of 40 dancers also performed at the Israeli ambassador Party celebrating Israel's 57th anniversary in front of diplomats and official representatives from all over the world.

Michal perform as a soloist with the Israeli orchestra in concerts to all ages.
